In 1971, we fought a heroic war against
the Pakistani Army and won. That, however, is only half of the
story. The other half is the heart-rendering story of pain, anguish,
death, humiliation, and systematic destruction of a nation by
an army who, like the Nazis, believed that we, the Bengalis,
were an inferior race. In the land of God fearing people, they
considered us as Kafirs. Nazi-style torture and killing were
inflicted upon us with the help of their paramilitary forces
- the Razakars, the Al-Badars and the Al-Shams. When it all ended,
the Pakistani soldiers and their collaborators have killed 3
million men, women and children, tortured and raped thousands
of women, burned cities, and wiped out entire villages. What
was our crime ?-- After decades of exploitation and injustice,
we wanted freedom from the Pakistani colonial rule.
The following pages provide a graphic testament to this crime
against humanity, and pay an homage to our brothers and sisters
who gave their lives for no fault of their own.
